WCC RELEASE | UCU WCC TOURNAMENT CENTRAL | MEN'S BRACKET

SAN MATEO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced the 2020-21 Men's Basketball All-WCC Teams, with four LMU players receiving recognition by the league's head coaches for their play this season. Eli Scott played his way onto the All-WCC First Team, and Dameane Douglas and Keli Leaupepe were both named as All-WCC Honorable Mention selections. Jalin Anderson earned a spot on the conference's All-Freshman Team.

Scott took another jump forward this season, after being named to the All-WCC Second Team as a junior. The LMU senior is the only player in the WCC to finish in the top-10 in scoring, rebounding, and assists this season. Scott finished as the league's fifth-leading scorer at 17.65 points per game, the second-leading rebounder at 7.90 boards per game, and eight in assists at 3.65 dimes per game.

Once conference play hit, Scott elevated his game to a new level, which a key factor in bumping LMU up from the seventh-best record in league play in 2019-20 to the third-best record in the WCC this season. In conference games only, nobody scored more that Scott this season. The Chino Hills native was the only player to average over 20 points per game league games. Scott ranked third in WCC rebounding at 7.42 per game and improved his assist numbers to 3.83 in conference play which ranked ninth. Scott also improved his field goal percentage from 48.5 percent overall this season to 51.8 percent in LMU's 12 league games.

Scott's 37-point career high in the win over Santa Clara was tied with Pepperdine's Kessler Edwards for most in a single conference game this season, with nobody making more field goals in a single game all year than Scott's 15 on Feb. 16, 2021 against the Broncos. Scott's six double-doubles this season was second in the WCC, and only one behind Santa Clara's Josip Vrankic.

Despite being limited due to injury to just four conference games, the WCC Head Coaches recognized the talent of Dameane Douglas and selected him as an Honorable Mention All-WCC player. Douglas finished his season on Jan. 21, 2021 having averaged 13.5 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game before his injury. His scoring would have finished 13th in the conference and he would have been the league's third leading scorer if he reached the game's minimums to qualify. Douglas' top game in conference play was his 19 and 9 performance on 8-for-10 shooting to lift LMU to an overtime win over San Diego on Jan. 19, 2021.

Keli Leaupepe improved his scoring and rebounding numbers this season in his second season at LMU. Leaupepe averaged 10.5 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game as a sophomore to earn a place on the All-WCC Honorable Mention team. Leaupepe had two double-double games this season including a 13 and 10 performance in the road league win at Santa Clara on Feb. 16, 2021. Leaupepe finished 19th in the league in overall rebounds, including fourth in offensive rebounds with 1.95 per game, and sixth in free throw percentage at 84 percent.

No freshman played more minutes in the WCC this season than Jalin Anderson. The LMU point guard averaged 30.86 minutes per game, which ranked 13th overall in conference play and led all freshman. Since league play began, Anderson's minutes increased to 32.30 per game, which ranked 11th in the WCC. Anderson finished ninth in the league with 3.53 assists per game in his 19 appearances this season, and eighth in assist to turnover ratio at 1.52. Both those statistics improved once league play began with Anderson dishing out 3.92 assists per game in conference (8th in the league) and carried a 1.68 assist-to-turnover ratio (10th in league). Anderson started 17 games this season as a freshman, and hit the game-winner in his first collegiate game to defeat Southern Utah. Anderson enters the WCC Tournament averaging 7.3 points per game.

This is the first time that four Lions have been recognized by the WCC at the end of the regular season since the 1989-90 season when four future LMU Athletics Hall-of Famers were selected. Hank Gathers, Jeff Fryer, and Bo Kimble were each named to the All-Conference First Team, and Terrell Lowery was named as an Honorable Mention.

LMU has had an All-Freshman team selection in four consecutive years with Anderson's selection. All four of Tuesday's honorees for the Lions were previously named to the WCC All-Freshman team in their first season on The Bluff: Scott in 2017-18, Douglas in 2018-19, and Leaupepe in 2019-20.

The Lions will open the WCC Championships on Friday at 6:00 P.M. The game will be played against the winner of San Diego and San Francisco as LMU received an opening round bye. Stadium will provide coverage on Friday night from the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.
