SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Loyola Marymount's
James Batemon has been named to the West Coast Conference's All-Conference First Team. LMU's
Mattias Markusson and
Dameane Douglas received recognition as members of the All-WCC Honorable Mention team and All-Freshman team, respectively.
Batemon, a Second Team All-WCC selection a season ago, becomes LMU's first First-Team All-WCC selection since Anthony Ireland's three consecutive from 2011-14. Batemon finished the regular season ranked seventh in the WCC in both scoring at 17.0 ppg and assists at 3.6 per game. The WCC steals leader at 1.7 spg helped propel the Lions to a 20-win regular season and a fifth-seed heading into this week's WCC Championships.
Honorable Mention Team selection
Mattias Markusson averaged 9.9 points per game after shooting 58.3 percent from the field, to go along with his 6.4 rebounds per game. Markusson led the Lions with three double-doubles on the season.
Dameane Douglas becomes the second Lion on the WCC's All-Freshman team in as many seasons, joining teammate
Eli Scott from a season ago. In conference play, Douglas ranked 24
thin scoring at 9.4 points per game and 19
thin rebounding in the conference at 4.6 points per game, all well shooting 54 percent from the field. Douglas recorded two double-doubles and started 18 games as a true freshman.
LMU's three-game win streak to close out the season helped the Lions earn the five seed in the WCC Championships. LMU will play the 6 p.m. game on Friday at the Orleans Arena between the winners of No. 8 Pepperdine and No. 9 Pacific.
