LOS ANGELES – With the regular season now complete, LMU now knows the path they will need to take in the upcoming Credit Union 1 West Coast Conference Men's Basketball Championship.
The Lions hold the No. 10 seed in the tournament and will be on the late game line of the bracket with four of the first five games scheduled to tip at 8:30 PM.
The first opponent for LMU will be No. 11 San Diego, a team that the Lions swept this season in two matchups. LMU defeated the Toreros twice in February, both my double-digits. That game will be played on Thursday, March 5 at 8:30 PM and air on ESPN+. This is the second-consecutive season that LMU will open against USD. In last season's tournament game, the Lions defeated the Toreros, 100-74, in Las Vegas.
The second round will be a rematch from last night, as LMU and Seattle will play on Friday, March 6 at 8:30 PM. The 7-seeded Redhawks took both games from the Lions this season.
Round three would pair LMU against the 6-seed Pacific on Saturday, March 7 for a third-consecutive 8:30 PM start on ESPN+. Pacific defeated the Lions twice this year, both by single digits.
The fourth consecutive night of games would pair LMU against 3-seed Santa Clara. This is when the tournament switches from ESPN+ to a nationally televised broadcast on ESPN2. That game would begin at 8:00 PM from the Orleans Arena.
The semifinal matchup on Monday would pair LMU against WCC Co-Champions and 2-seed Saint Mary's. The Lions and Gaels only played one time this season back in December in the conference opener. It was a one-possession game with less than five seconds remaining and a tie game entering the final two minutes of play.
The title will be crowned on Tuesday, March 10 with a 6:00 tip of ESPN. The winner of that game will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
The entire event will run from March 5-10 at the Orleans Arena. Tickets to the tournament are
available here.
