July 19, 2018

Top 10 Highlights -- Memories, accomplishments, and moments highlighted Loyola Marymount's 2017-18 school year. As we prepare for more excitement in 2018-19, we're counting down the Top 10 Moments of this past year.

WCC All-Conference | WCC All-Preaseason | PING All-Region
WCC Championships | NCAA Regional Selection | NCAA RegionalsElmes Wins Wyoming Southern Dunes Invitational | Elmes Ties Program Record at Oregon Duck Invitational

Golf's Riley Elmes continued to rewrite the record books in 2017-18 following a historic season on the links. With seven more top-five finishes added to his resume, LMU's Male Athlete of the Year shined throughout his junior year.

His accolades throughout the season can go on and on and on...

This list could continue...

  • Riley Elmes lowered his stroke average to 71.33 stroke average, LMU's second-best all-time, surpassing his sophomore season's 71.72.
  • Riley Elmes tied Brian Locke's program record, set in the 2006-07 school year, with 23 rounds under par... three rounds more than Elmes totaled as a sophomore the year prior.
  • Riley Elmes has 52 rounds under par in his LMU career, the fourth-most all time. In his senior year he'll need one more round to catch Jake Sarnoff (2008-12), two rounds to match his current Head Coach Jason D'Amore (2005-08), and sits 20 rounds from tying Brian Locke (2006-09) for the program record at 72 rounds under par.
  • Riley Elmes now holds two of the top four three-round low scores at the WCC Tournament following his second-consecutive top-five finish this April

The native Oregonian picked a bevy of awards as well this year, including being named to the WCC All-Conference Team, WCC All-Preseason Team, and the PING GCAA Division I All-Region Team.

Elmes was also the recipient of LMU's Male Athlete of the Year Award at the athletic department's annual Iggy Awards.

Following his performance in the WCC Championships to cap off the regular season, Elmes was selected as LMU's first individual to earn an individual at-large selection since 2015, and seventh overall. Elmes tied for 16th in Stockton at the Pacific Regional, but was only the second individual Lion to finish under par all time.

While others may be taking it slower in the summer, that is not the case for Riley. He is continuing to work and play. Not to mention, two days ago he won his US Amateur Qualifier with an incredible 12-under performance.
