Olympia Fields, IL – LMU men's golf finished two golfers with 70s and another two with 71s to sit in a tie for third after the opening round of play at the OFCC Fighting Illini Invitational.
The team shot 282 on Friday on the Par 70, 7353-yard course. Just three strokes behind clubhouse leaders Texas Tech, two strokes back from Oklahoma State, and tied with Florida, the Lions will have two rounds to continue the rise in the standings. LMU used 15 birdies to shoot 2-over.
Trevor Algya and
Adam Pedersen tied for 14
th and led the team after shooting a par 70 round each. Algya bounced back with three birdies on his back nine to get back to even and Pedersen did his work early with two birdies over his first four holes. The pair are three strokes back of the individual leader.
Also scoring for the Lions, Nateesh Ganesh and
Louie Liu shot rounds of 71. Ganesh totaled four birdies and Liu finished his round with three.
In his first round as a Lion,
Pablo Garcia Terol shot 74, including a pair of birdies.
The Lions will start the second round of play from Olympia Fields CC from Hole 1, as opposed to Friday's start from 10. Garcia Terol will open play for LMU at 8:45 AM CST, followed by Liu at 8:54 AM, Ganesh at 9:03 AM, Pedersen at 9:12 AM, and concluding with Algya at 9:21 AM.
