LIEGE, Belgium (Aug. 16) - After two days of training and site seeing in Belgium and Germany, the Loyola Marymount University women's soccer team crossed the Rhine River for their second game of their 2004 European Tour. The Lions earned their second straight shutout victory thanks to a 2-0 win over Standard Liege. Prior to the win, LMU took a private steamer from Konigswinthur, Germany, along the Rhine for a two-hour tour of the famous river. The team traveled through Remagen, a famous World War II landmark and stopped in Arweiller for lunch. They finished the tour at the Mayschoss winery for a tour in the small town in Germany. Then it was down to business as goalkeepers Joslyn Slovek and Kelly Yukihio once again combined to post a shutout. Both keepers have played a half in the first two contests of the European Tour. In addition, the Lions' offense was able to get the production needed to support the play of their keepers. Junior Kelly Lewandowski benefited twice from solid play from her teammates to earn both goals for the Lions. She would put the Lions up 1-0 in the first half when sophomore Alicia Lloyd executed a perfect long throw-in. It was Lloyd's second assist of the trip. The Lions would go up 2-0 when Lewandowski gathered in a deflection from Tana Smothermon. Also earning an assist on the play was Sims, whose cross in started the scoring opportunity. Monday will be a travel day for the Lions as they leave Belgium and head to London for the remainder of the trip. They will arrive for lunch in Leicester Square before having the evening off on their own. Following a day off of training, the Lions will get back into action with their third game of the trip against Bristol Rovers.
