Lions Fall to Zags in First Leg of Eastern Washington Road Trip

SPOKANE, Wash. – LMU women's soccer dropped a 3-0 decision at Gonzaga on Tuesday evening at Luger Field, falling to 5-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in West Coast Conference play. The Bulldogs improved to 5-7-0 (3-1-0 WCC) with the victory. 
 
Gonzaga struck twice in the first half to take control of the match. Amelia Severn converted a penalty kick in the 27th minute to open the scoring, then assisted on Katelyn Rigg's goal in the 33rd minute to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage at halftime. 
 
Emily Todd added a third goal for the Bulldogs in the 55th minute, finishing off assists from Rigg and Olivia Lester to put the match out of reach. 
 
Goalkeeper JJ Hoover made 13 saves for the Lions, including a penalty kick stop in the 18th minute that kept the match scoreless early. The Lions managed five shots on goal but were unable to break through against Gonzaga goalkeeper Michaela McCollum, who recorded four saves to earn the shutout. 
 
LMU generated more offensive opportunities in the second half, outshooting the Bulldogs 11-9 after the break and earning four corner kicks.

The Lions will travel to Pullman to face Washington State on Saturday night at 7 PM.
