Dobbs Wondergoal Rescues Point for Lions

LOS ANGELES — Kylie Dobbs delivered a dramatic equalizer in the 87th minute, salvaging a 1-1 draw for LMU against Pepperdine on Wednesday night at Sullivan Field.

Dobbs, who entered as a substitute in the 79th minute, made an immediate impact. The forward created space with a quick move before unleashing a 20-yard strike that deflected and spun into the top left corner, beating Pepperdine goalkeeper Jillian Medvecky for her third goal of the season.

The Lions (5-5-3, 2-3-2 WCC) trailed after Pepperdine's Layla Simon scored in the 79th minute, just moments before Dobbs entered the match. LMU quickly responded, with Dobbs finding the back of the net less than eight minutes after checking in.
Goalkeeper JJ Hoover was fearless for the Lions, making 14 saves while facing constant pressure from the Waves' attack. Hoover recorded six saves in the first half and eight more in the second, making numerous tough saves in traffic as Pepperdine (9-4-2, 6-0-1) dominated possession and outshot LMU 21-8.

The Waves held a significant 15-3 advantage in shots on goal and earned 13 corner kicks to LMU's zero, but couldn't capitalize on their opportunities after Simon's goal.

While Pepperdine controlled possession and generated more chances, LMU made its opportunities count when it mattered most. The Lions proved that quality trumps quantity, converting one of just three shots on goal while withstanding the Waves' pressure to earn a hard-fought point.
