Pawleys Island, SC – LMU men's golf shot 17-under in the first round of the year on Sunday to sit atop the team leaderboard of the Golfweek Fall Challenge. The Lions have four players in the top-12 of the 80-player field and are led by tournament-leader
Riley Lewis and his 65.
Lewis shot par or better in all 18 holes to kick off the 2023-24 season, including seven birdies to finish his day at 7-under.
Freshman
Mason Snyder tied Lewis with seven birdies of his own, finishing his first collegiate round at 4-under, 68 and tied for sixth. Snyder has a string of three consecutive birdies between the 13
th and 15
th holes.
Both
Tony Hendricks and
Trevor Algya tied for 12
th with a 69 through 18. No player recorded more holes of par than the 15 by Hendricks. Algya hit five birdies, including three in a row between nine and 11.
Rounding out the LMU five is
Cade Anderson in a tie for 35
th at 71.
LMU shot 271 collectively and is a stroke ahead of Washington State in the team scores.
Tournament play will continue with the second round of play on Monday from True Blue Golf Club. LMU will tee off in nine-minute increments beginning at 9:15 AM EST.
