Will Johnston Signing

Men's Basketball

Lions Sign Shooter, Scorer Johnston

LOS ANGELES - Head Coach Stan Johnson has signed Will Johnston to play for LMU men's basketball in the 2023-24 season. Johnston will transfer into the LMU program as a scoring guard after playing last season at UTRGV.

"This is a very exciting time to take the next step in my career and join the LMU family," said Johnston. "I chose LMU because I believe that it is the perfect fit for me. The opportunity to come to LMU and win right away was something that I wanted to be a part of. I also loved the opportunity to be a part of a family and a culture that will help me grow as I see this team going on a deep run in March. I can't wait to join the Lion family and get started this coming June."

Johnston has averaged double digits in each of his three years of college basketball. The Sydney, Australian began his college career at South Georgia Tech where he averaged 14.3 points per game in his first season and increased that to 17.6 points per game in his second year with the Jets. In his first season at the Division I level, Johnston ranked fifth in the Western Athletic Conference in scoring at 14.5 points per game. Johnston also ranked in the Top-10 in the WAC in assists, free throws, three-pointers made, and assists to turnover ratio. Johnston hit 74 threes in the 2022-23 season at a clip of 43.8 percent.

"I'm so excited about the addition of Will to our program," said Johnson. "He brings with him an incredible skill set that will make all of us better. He's a tremendous shooter, that can really play off ball screens and is explosive in transition. His competitive spirit as a person and player is something that really made him a priority for us. Will is a big-time culture guy, who comes from an amazing family. I love Will's basketball journey. He has an amazing story that is still being written."

The Lions are coming off the program's second top-four season in the WCC over Johnson's three-year career.

The schedule and ticket information for the 2023-24 season will be released when completed.
