LOS ANGELES – LMU men's basketball has announced the signing of 7-1 Lars Thiemann, who recently completed a four-year career at University of California. No other Golden Bear scored more points or grabbed more rebounds than Thiemann did in the 2022-23 season.
 
"I chose LMU because everything about it felt like the perfect fit for me," said Thiemann. "From the moment I stepped on campus, I felt the winning culture which the coaching staff established as well the family atmosphere. LMU feels like the best place for me to grow as a player and person, and I am excited to go to work with the coaches and my teammates to make a deep run in March. I am grateful for this opportunity and can't wait to proudly represent the Lions on court. GO LIONS!"
 
Thiemann is coming off a season where he averaged career-highs of 9.5 points and 5.4 rebounds in 31 games played as a senior. The Krefeld, Germany native scored in double digits in 16 games and led Cal with 111 field goals made and is a career 51.8 percent shooter. Thiemann posted career-highs across the board in his final season at Berkeley, including points, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals, minutes, and games started.
 
"Lars is an incredible get for us," said Johnson. "He adds tremendous size to our front court and the highest of character to our program. His physicality and his ability to score will allow us to play the way we like by bringing balance to our team. His unselfishness and professionalism will make him an easy teammate to play with. He was a major priority in the portal. There's no doubt in my mind he will elevate LMU Basketball. Today is a great day."
 
Thiemann will be immediately eligible to compete and will have one year of eligibility with the Lions.
