He comes to the Bluff with a degree from Stanford in his pocket, three Pac-12 All-Academic Team recognitions, and two consecutive selections on the NABC's Honor Court. For
Kodye Pugh, he's ready to add more accolades and knowledge to his college as a graduate transfer on LMU's men's basketball team new admit to LMU's School of Film and Television.
"LMU SFTV is a top-10 program in the nation," said Pugh. "I'm extremely blessed to be able to continue down this pathway so soon. I've been told film school is really where you can make yourself, so I'm excited to hone in on my skill set just as I would on the basketball court. Once this ball stops bouncing, I want to be a major fiction director. I want to tell stories that inspire generations of people."
For somebody who plans to make a career out of inspiring others, some inspiration hit Pugh to take his remaining basketball eligibility to LMU and finish his career as a Lion under Coach
Stan Johnson.
"As soon as Coach Stan was announced as the new head coach at LMU, I immediate took interest," said Pugh. "I knew that coming from a successful program in Marquette, that he would be able to make a major turn around here at LMU. I wanted to be a part of that."
While playing for the Cardinal, Pugh appeared in 38 games over two seasons, before missing all of the 2019-20 campaign due to injury. Pugh scored more than two times as many points and grabbed twice as many rebounds from his first to second season.
Pugh's style of play allows him to do any and all things on the court, a match for Coach Johnson's style.
"I would describe my game as fluid," said Pugh. "It can flow into any position necessary. I live above the rim and like to get up and down the floor."
With his soaring style, Los Angeles is the perfect fit.
"LA is unlike anything I've experienced before," said Pugh. "I only know it from one PAC-12 road trip. They say LA is a place that can consume you, but being from out east I think I'll be able to handle myself. This city is filled with opportunity and I plan to take advantage of it as much as I can."
Kodye Pugh will be putting on shows and creating magic for many years to come.
