SAN BRUNO - The West Coast Conference announced the 2016-17 West Coast Conference Men's Basketball All-Academic Team and LMU junior Steven Haney Jr. earned first-team honors for the second consecutive season.
Haney becomes the first Lion to earn back-to-back first-team WCC All-Academic honors since Jason Dickens did it in 2002-03 and 2003-04. Just four Lions have earned multiple first-team honors in program history as Pablo Michado did it in 1999-00 and 2000-01 while Greg Walker did it in 1991-92 and 1992-93.
In his second season of action with the Lions, Haney is third on the team with 9.2 points per game, ranking seventh in the WCC with 2.1 three-pointers per game. Haney, who has a 3.33 GPA as a Communications Studies major, entered the season as an NABC Allstate Good Works team nominee and is currently 11th all-time in LMU history with 129 three-pointers.
He has hit 56 three-pointers this season, including a career-equaling seven in the win over Pepperdine Saturday. The 56 is ranked 19th all-time for a single season at LMU, with the 73 he hit last year ranking eighth all-time.
The Lions will celebrate Senior Day on Thursday when they host San Francisco on Feb. 23 at 7 pm.
