The LMU swim team recognized its five senior athletes on Saturday against Pacific, as seniors Kristen Clarno, Kristen Brennand, Stephanie Horwitz, Sofia Abrate and Mary Kate Reid all competed in their final home meet of their careers. Clarno highlighted the group, winning the 200 IM with a time of 2:10.28, and finishing second in the 200 freestyle (1:56.11).
Junior Hannah Calton also had another standout day, taking first in both the 100 and 200 butterfly events. Calton won the 200 by more than 10 seconds, stopping the clock at 2:03 in front of Pacific's Rosyln Kackman (2:13.27). She returned to the water in the 100, finishing the race in 55.96. Kailee Mora helped LMU to a 1-3 finish in the event, turning in a time of 58.63.
Brennand managed a pair of top-three finishes on her senior day, taking second in the 50 freestyle (24.36) and third in the 100 freestyle (53.38).
Horwitz contributed a pair of third-place finishes in the distance freestyle events, first registering a 10:52.08 in the 1,000 freestyle before taking third in the 500 (5:18.94) later in the meet.
Reid and Brennand combined with Calton and Mora to finish a close second in the 200 medley relay to start the day. The quartet posted a mark of 1:47.42 to finish less than a second behind Pacific's "A" relay.
Abrate competed in both the 100 and 200 backstroke after leading off the 200 medley "B" relay. The senior helped that relay quartet to a time of 1:53.38 to place fourth.
Pacific defeated LMU in the team score, 149-105. The fun-filled senior meet also featured a 200 freestyle relay that pit non-LMU swim athletic teams against one another. Men's and women's rowing won both the men's and women's heats, but every team in attendance proved extremely competitive.
With the dual meet season now in the books, LMU will prepare for the 2016 PCSC Championships being held from February 12-15 at East LA College.
