The LMU swim team traveled to San Diego on Saturday for a dual meet against the Toreros, eventually dropping the meet by a score of 163-114. Kristen Brennand turned in LMU's lone individual victory, winning the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.56.
The Lions took first and third in the sprint freestyle event, with freshman Marley Abbott touching the wall in 25.34.
Brennand was an integral player in LMU's relays as well, anchoring the winning 400 freestyle relay to conclude the meet. She teamed with Hannah Calton, Isabel Willis and Kristen Clarno to post a time of 3:33.59 to win the event. Swimming the freestyle leg of the 200 medley, Brennand helped Kailee Mora, Mary Kate Reid and Calton finish second in a time of 1:47.10.
Stephanie Horwitz was impressive in the two distance freestyle events, claiming a pair of second-place finishes. The native of Northbrook, Ill. posted a time of 10:42.98 to edge USD's Morgan Scarth at 10:43.09 in the 1000 before clocking a 5:13.53 in the 500.
Clarno and Calton also managed a pair of second-place finishes, with Clarno taking second in the 200 freestyle (1:56.26) and 100 freestyle (53.45). Willis (54.46) and Brennand (54.62) followed in third and fourth, as LMU went 2-3-4 in the 100 free. Calton earned her runner-up finishes in the 100 and 200 butterfly events. The native of Granite Bay, Calif. turned in a time of 2:05.07 in the 200 before registering a 57.09 in the 100 butterfly.
Other highlights for the Lions on Saturday included 2-3 finishes in the 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke and 200 IM. Sofia Abrate took second in the 100 backstroke with a mark of 1:01.35, followed by Lia Jorgensen in third at 1:02.81. Jorgensen also earned a third-place finish in the 200 IM (2:17.92), finishing behind Mora at 2:10.62. Reid would lead the 2-3 finish in the 100 breaststroke, collecting a time of 1:07.90 for a close second behind USD's Bri Jurries (1:07.50). Mora took third in the event with a time of 1:07.96, while Reid would go on to post the third-fastest time in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.14).
The Lions will return to the water on 11/19 when they participate at the A3 Performance Invitational.
