LOS ANGELES - With spring break over, the non-traditional season starts to heat up for LMU women's soccer, who will play six matches in the next six weeks. The Lions will play three of those matches at Sullivan Field in addition to facing the U.S. Under-17 National Team at the Home Depot Center on March 23.
The spring season kicks off this Saturday, March 12 with a home game against San Diego State at noon. The Aztecs went 8-10-3 in 2010 and placed third in the Mountain West Conference with a 5-2-0 record. The Lions and Aztecs last played during the regular season in 2008, resulting in a goalless draw.
The Lions will then play three road matches in 10 days, starting on Wednesday, March 23, when the Lions will head to the Home Depot Center in Carson for a 6 p.m. kick-off against the U.S. Under-17 National Team. That is followed on Sunday, March 27 with a 2 p.m. slate against Ajax of the Women's Professional Soccer League. That contest will be held at Nassen Field in Palos Verdes. The road swing concludes on Friday, April 1 at Cal State Northridge at 2:30 p.m. The Matadors went 12-9-0 last fall and placed third in the Big West Conference at 5-3-0.
LMU will close out the spring season with two games back at Sullivan Field, starting Saturday, April 9 against another Big West foe, UC Irvine. The Anteaters are coming off a 2010 campaign that saw them post a 19-3-2 overall record and an undefeated 8-0-0 mark to win the Big West. Kick-off against the Anteaters will be at 10 a.m.
On Saturday, April 16, the Lions will welcome back former LMU greats for the annual Alumni Game.
