Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Dobbs' Delightful Return Keys WCC-Opening Victory

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. –  In a moment that epitomized perseverance and precision, forward Kylie Dobbs made her season debut count in spectacular fashion, scoring the game-winning goal just two minutes into the second half to lift LMU women's soccer to a crucial 1-0 victory over San Francisco at Negoesco Stadium Tuesday evening.

The Lions improved to 4-2-1 overall and opened West Coast Conference play with a perfect 1-0-0 mark, while the Dons fell to 1-5-2 (0-1-0 WCC) in a tightly contested battle that showcased the defensive intensity expected in conference play.

Dobbs, who had been limited during non-conference action, announced her return to the pitch in emphatic style. Making her first appearance of the season as a substitute at halftime, the dynamic forward needed just 2 minutes and 3 seconds to find the back of the net, converting her very first touch of 2025 into what proved to be the match-winner.

The first half was a chess match of the highest order, with both teams creating dangerous moments but unable to break the deadlock. LMU's best chance came when midfielder Alaina Lee struck the crossbar with a perfectly placed effort, while forward Malia Suehiro was denied by a spectacular sprawling save from USF goalkeeper Tyra Bengtsson-Stenseth late in the opening frame.

Goalkeeper JJ Hoover was magnificent between the posts for the Lions, recording six saves to earn her second shutout of the season and improve to 1-0-0. Despite facing a barrage of 20 shots from the Dons, Hoover commanded her box with authority, making crucial stops in both halves to preserve the clean sheet. The Lions' defensive unit, anchored by Alice Zimmerman and Emma Gustad Myklebust, successfully absorbed San Francisco's pressure while launching dangerous counter-attacks.

The victory marks an ideal start to WCC play for LMU, who now carry momentum into Sunday afternoon's matchup with Oregon State back at Sullivan Field. With Dobbs back in the fold and the defense showing championship-caliber resolve, the Lions have positioned themselves as early contenders in what promises to be a competitive conference race.
