Results

Los Angeles, Calif. - Earlier today the LMU women's tennis team played Pac-Ten opponent, University of Arizona wildcats. LMU's Elisaveta Pironkova earned the Lions their solo win of the day over Arizona's Hane Huh 6-2, 6-0 in singles play. Pironkova's win gave the Lions a point on the day, however the Lions were unable to hold off the rest of the wildcats as they fell 6-1 overall.

In doubles, the Lions were unable to get a win over the wildcats. At the number one position, Jasmin Heckel and Shauna Morgan were defeated 8-1 by Sarah Landsman of Arizona. Meanwhile on court two, Melissa Valenzuela and Bliss Nixon came closer to a win against Claire Rietsch and Natalia Toporowska going 8-4 overall. Jane Pringle and Elisaveta Pironkova got four sets against Natasha Marks and Debora Castany 8-4at the third position.

In singles play, Elisaveta Pironkova led the Lions with her victory over Hane Huh of Arizona. Pironkova went 6-2 in the first set and then sealed her win with a 6-0 shut out in the second set. In other singles play, Bliss Nixon fell to Debora Castany 6-3, 6-2 at the number five position and Melissa Valenzuela was defeated 6-3, 6-1 by Topotowka on court four. After dropping a close 7-5 in the first set Estelle LaPorte was unable to come back in the second going 6-1 to Claire Rietsch. At the number two position, Jane Pringle was unable to stop Landsman 6-0, 6-0 while Jasmin Heckel went 6-3, 6-2 to Natasha Marks.

Next up, the Lions will face conference opponent Pepperdine in Malibu on Thursday April 8th at 1:30 pm.
