LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The women's tennis team suffered a tough loss today to no. 48 University of Utah Aggies. The Lions were unable to snag a win from Utah falling 7-0 overall. Up next the Lions will be looking to bounce back when they play New Mexico State on Thursday March 25th at 1:30 pm.
In doubles play the Lions dropped all three matches to the Aggies. Jasmin Heckel and Shuana Morgan moved up to the Lions number one position however fell to Utah's Anastasia Putilina/Paige Miles 8-0. On court two, Jane Pringles and Elisaveta Pironkova were defeated by Erin Monson/Andrea Maughan 8-5. Bliss Nixon and Melissa Valenzuela at one point looked like they might come back after dropping the first sets however were unable to overcome Evgenia Kryuchkova/Lisa Johnson dropping the match 8-7.
In singles play the Lions were shut out by Utah. At the number one position, Jasmin Heckel was defeated by Anastasia Putilina 6-2, 6-4 while teammate Jane Pringle was unable to stop Evgenia Kryuchkova 6-4, 6-2. In other singles play Estelle LaPorte fell 6-3, 6-1 to Erin Monson whil Melissa Valenzuela fell 6-4, 6-2 to Paige Miles. On court five Elisavet Pironkova dropped 6-3, 6-1 to Lisa Johnson and on court six Audrey Bulkley fell 6-1, 6-1 to Andrea Maughan.
Next up, the Lions will face New Mexico State on Thursday March 25th at 1:30 pm at the LMU Tennis Center.
