Worthy, Knight Earn Honors

March 7, 2006

Spokane, WA (March 8) -- Juniors Matthew Knight and Brandon Worthy gave a sneak preview of what could be the best inside-outside duo of the West Coast Conference next season as they led the Loyola Marymount men's basketball team to the verge of the WCC title Monday night. The pair where named to the WCC All-Tournament team for their efforts.

Knight earned his 17th double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds against Gonzaga while Worthy did a little of everything, leading the team with 15 points. He added six rebounds and six assists to his evening.

The pair are the first Lions to earn All-Tournament honors since Jim Williamson earned All-Tournament honors in 1997.

The Lions near upset of the fourth-ranked team in the country has earned national attention as those seeking at-large bids into the NCAA Tournament hung onto the Lions rise in the tournament.

With Knight and Worthy with their senior season on the horizon, the Lions are looking to make even more noise in the season to come under Head Coach Rodney Tention, who finished his first season.
