Lions Wrap Up Spring With Win

April 11, 2005

Temecula, Calif. - The Loyola Marymount University women's soccer team wrapped up its spring season and continued its dominance of the Pac-10 with a 1-0 win over UCLA on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Stefanie Baduria scored her second goal in as many games to provide LMU with the margin of victory.

Baduria tallied the game winner at the 63:00 minute mark with a nifty finish from the left side of the penalty area. Baduria cleaned up a poor clearance by UCLA keeper Val Henderson, who was trying to stop a shot by LMU's Katie Osborne. Baduria gathered up the attempted clearance and calmly slotted the ball into the empty net.

Jamie Bell was perhaps the most dangerous Lion on the day, as she provided the game's most exciting moment as she collected a ball at midfield and went on a scintillating run that beat three Bruin defenders before cannoning a shot off the post that Henderson was helpless to stop. Defensively, it was another strong team performance, led by Lion goalkeeper Joslyn Slovek. The freshman was superb in goal, earning her second straight shutout.

"Today was a good result against a very organized and experienced opponent," commented LMU Head Coach Gregg Murphy. "Once again, we displayed tremendous effort and attitude into the entire 90 minutes. There were a lot of stellar individual performances that led to a very strong team effort. The real test is how we take the lessons we have learned in the spring and how we apply them to the upcoming 2005 season."

The Lions open the 2005 season at home against Indiana on August 27th at 4:00 pm.
