Seven Lions Earn All-WCC Honors

Los Angeles, Calif., - Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002 - Seven Loyola Marymount University women's soccer athletes were named to the 2002 All-West Coast Conference team as announced today by the West Coast Conference. Juniors Laura Trask and Shari Nishikawa head up the list receiving first and second team honors, respectively.

This is Trask's third straight selection to the All-WCC list, but her first time as a first team member. As a freshman and sophomore she was an all-conference second-team honoree. The El Cajon, Calif., native has started in all 19 games for the Lions, she has two goals and one assists adding up to five points. Nishikawa makes her second appearance on the all-conference board, she was a first-team selection her freshman season (2000). Like Trask, Nishikawa has also started in each of LMU's 19 games. She has tallied one goal and leads the squad with five assists on the year. Her career assists total currently stands at eight which ranks her eighth in the Lion career record book.

Honorable mention honors were awarded to seniors Myka Peck and Beth Skhal and freshmen Kellie Schroeder, Lori Sims and Jennifer Horn. Peck served as team captain this year, scored three goals and two assists for a total of eight points, third on the team. Skhal has posted 6-2-1 record as the Lions starting goalkeeper making 22 saves and boasting a 0.53 goals against average.

Schroeder played in all 19 games and made 16 starts. She headed up the Lions' offensive attack scoring six goals in her first year as a collegiate athlete. Sims, who made seven starts and played in 17 games, helped LMU with her two goals and two assists. One of her two scores came as the game-winner against Washington State (9/29/02). Rounding out the list of honorees is Horn. The Mission Viejo, Calif., native saw action in all 19 games while making 16 starts. She was a key player in the Lions defense that allowed just 14 goals on the year and posted a team goals against average of 0.69. Horn picked up an assist on the game-winning goal against Pepperdine (10/13/02).

The seven awards is the most ever received by any Lion team. Loyola Marymount continues its season this Friday, Nov. 15 when it takes on No. 3 UCLA in Round 1 of the NCAA College Cup at 8:30 p.m. on Frank W. Marshall Field.
