Los Angeles, Calif., - Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001 - Loyola Marymount junior, defensive specialist Laura Gustorf was selected to the 2001 West Coast Conference Fall-All-Academic team as announced today by the West Coast Conference. The award is Gustorf's second in as many years.

The 2001 WCC Fall-All Academic team honors some of the league's finest examples of the consummate scholar-athlete. At the completion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each of the participating sponsored sports. To be considered, a student-athlete must earn at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to his or her team. This past summer in the latest NCAA Graduation Rate Report of student-athletes, the West Coast Conference ranked fifth in overall student-athlete graduation rate. The WCC has a 69.5 percent student athlete-graduation rate, which is the highest of any conference west of the Mississippi.

Gustorf, who served as team captain this season, led the Lions with 296 digs on the year and ranked 4th among conference leaders. She also paced the squad with 34 service aces placing her third among the WCC's best in that category. Gustorf's 3.29 digs per game average finished as the eighth best in the single-season record book. She set a new career kills mark with the 22 she dropped on San Francisco (10/13/01) and picked up a personal best seven aces against Indiana (9/7/01).

Gustorf was the only Lion to be named to this years All-Academic team. She is a business administration major and boasts a 3.72 GPA, the highest of all selected to this years team.
