LOS ANGELES - The Lions handled business at home on Saturday, sweeping the Portland Pilots, 3-0, inside Gersten Pavilion.

LMU came out strong, jumping to a quick 3-0 lead sparked by a kill from Maddie Boerstra. The Pilots kept things close, but the Lions stayed in control. Midway through the set, a kill from Camille Pomeroy capped a 3-0 run that pushed LMU ahead 14-10. Portland made a late push to get within two, forcing a timeout, but the Lions held firm to take the set, 25-23.

Set two started with Portland in front, 7-4, before a service error sparked a five-point run for LMU to tie things up at 12-all. The Lions caught fire again late, going on another five-point burst to grab the lead for good at 19-16. Boerstra closed it out with a kill to give LMU the 25-22 win.

Portland once again jumped ahead early in the third, going up 9-7 after scoring five straight. A kill from Sophie Stephenson gave LMU a spark, fueling a four-point run to take the lead, 12-10. The Lions kept rolling, putting together another four-point surge to go up 23-16. A kill by Nicole Schuetz sealed it, 25-17, as LMU wrapped up the sweep.

Boerstra led all players with 14 kills, while Delfina Schuh posted team highs across the board with 16 digs and 26 assists. Pomeroy and Schuetz each added five blocks to lead the way at the net.

The Lions are back in action Thursday, Oct. 16, when they hit the road to face the Gonzaga Bulldogs in Spokane, WA.
