MORAGA, CA – The Lions handled business on the road Saturday afternoon, sweeping the Saint Mary Gaels, 3–0.

The Lions got rolling early behind kills from Maddie Boerstra, Sophie Stephenson, and Kaitlyn Evans in the opening set. The Lions found their rhythm midway through, pulling ahead after key swings from Stephenson and Leah Burrell, putting the Lions up two, 17-15. The remainder of the set stayed close, but the Lions would score three kills in a row and put away the set, 25-20. 

Set two stayed tight early, but the Lions offense started clicking behind Delfina Schuh's steady setting and a service ace from Kayla Lopez that shifted momentum. The Lions went on a 5-0 run and led the Gaels by three, 22-19. SMC snuck a kill in, but LMU closed it out 25–21.

In the third, LMU kept its foot on the gas. A strong block from Sophia Keene capped a 7–0 run to give the Lions a 12–6 lead, but SMC answered right back with six straight to tie it up. From there, LMU tightened up defensively, and Nicole Schuetz's clutch block sealed the 25–21 win and the sweep.

Stephenson led all players with 14 kills, while Schuh paced both sides with 26 assists. Schuetz added a match-high five blocks, and Cecily Bramschreiber anchored the back row with 11 digs.

The Lions return home Thursday, Oct. 9, to face the Washington State Cougars at Gersten Pavilion.
