SPOKANE, Wash. – LMU women's volleyball dropped a four-set match to Gonzaga on Thursday evening at the Charlotte Y. Martin Centre, falling 25-18, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21. The Lions mounted a furious comeback in the fourth set, but came up just short of forcing a fifth-set tiebreaker.
Gonzaga won the opening two sets 25-18 and 25-16 to take an early advantage. The Lions responded with a dominant third-set performance, taking it 25-21 to force a fourth set and keep their hopes alive.
The fourth set proved to be a tightly contested affair, with LMU mounting a furious comeback. The Lions clawed back repeatedly and kept the match competitive throughout, nearly forcing a fifth set before Gonzaga put it away late for the 25-21 victory.
Despite the loss, the Lions showed considerable fight and resilience in the comeback attempt. The team's ability to respond after being down two sets demonstrated character and competitive spirit against an improving Gonzaga team.
Sophie Stephenson led the Lions' offensive attack with 12 kills while hitting efficiently at a .310 clip. Middle blocker

Maddie Boerstra had a solid all-around performance with 12 digs and 9 kills.
Cecily Bramschreiber impressed on the defensive side with 20 digs and 7 assists.
The Lions travel to Pullman, Wash. to face Washington State on Saturday night.
