PULLMAN, WA – The LMU Lions battled hard but came up short against Washington State, falling 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Beasley Coliseum.

The first set was tight from start to finish, with both teams trading points and neither leading by more than two. A quick three-point run gave WSU a 15-12 edge, but a late push from LMU, highlighted by a kill from Nicole Schuetz, tied things up at 21. The teams went back and forth until it was 24-all, but the Cougars closed it out 26-24.

In the second set, WSU jumped ahead early, but LMU flipped the momentum after a kill and ace from Maddie Boerstra gave them a 10-9 lead. The Lions took control from there, capitalizing on Cougar errors to stretch the gap to 14-10. LMU kept that energy rolling, pushing the lead to eight before finishing strong. A kill from Sophie Stephenson, set up by Delfina Schuh, sealed the set for the Lions to even the match.

Set three played out a lot like the first, tight early before WSU went on a small run to lead 13-10. LMU stayed in it thanks to a Camille Pomeroy kill and a Boerstra ace, but the Cougars closed the door 25-20.

In the fourth, LMU came out firing, taking an 11-7 lead after an ace from Schuh. But the Cougars caught fire, stringing together runs of four and seven straight points to flip the score. Down 18-12, the Lions showed fight. A big kill from Sophia Keene and an ace from Isabella Ocampo helped cut the gap to one. Still, WSU held on to take the final two points and the match, 3-1.
