Los Angeles, CA, -- Loyola Marymount University's women's soccer team was shutout 2-0 by the nation's top scoring team, second-ranked Santa Clara, Friday afternoon at LMU's Sullivan Field in the Lions first home WCC match.
LMU (5-8-0, 1-2-0) held Santa Clara (14-1-0, 4-0-0) to a single goal in the first half, as Veronica Zepeda notched the first score in the 28th minute of the game, taking the left cross from Leslie Osborne. The Broncos outshot the Lions 9-0 in the first 45 minutes of the game.
The Lions came back in the second half with Amanda Shellenberger taking the only LMU shot-on-goal on the afternoon. Santa Clara's Osborne answered back with the final goal of the game in the 53rd minute of the game, assisted by Kerry Cathcart.
Elizabeth Skhal collected five saves in front of the net for the Lions, allowing only 2 goals against Santa Clara, a team that is leading the nation, averaging 3.86 points per game.
LMU's next game is on Sunday when they host Saint Mary's in a WCC game at 1:00 p.m.
