LOS ANGELES, CA - LMU women's volleyball head coach Kolby O'Donnell has announced the addition of Madi Bugg to the coaching staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2026 season.
One of the most accomplished setters of her generation, Bugg brings extensive experience at the collegiate, professional, and international levels to the Bluff. She is expected to work closely with LMU's setters and help lead the Lions' offensive system.
Bugg joins the Lions while continuing a professional playing career that has spanned more than a decade across Europe and the United States. Most recently, she competed with League One Volleyball clubs LOVB Salt Lake and LOVB Atlanta and is set to continue her professional playing career with the Grand Rapids Rise of Major League Volleyball.
During her time overseas, Bugg competed professionally in Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, and Poland, earning championships in multiple countries. In 2024, she helped Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano capture the CEV Champions League title, Italian Serie A1 Championship, Italian Cup, and Italian Supercup. She was also named the French Saforelle Power 6 Best Setter in 2021 after leading ASPTT Mulhouse to both league and French Cup championships.
Her professional résumé additionally includes a German Bundesliga championship with Allianz MTV Stuttgart in 2019 and a German Cup title with Dresdner SC in 2018. Bugg also competed in Athletes Unlimited during the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
Prior to her professional career, Bugg starred at Stanford University from 2012-15. She finished her collegiate career ranked second in program history with 5,014 assists and eighth with 121 service aces.
A three-time AVCA All-American and three-time Pac-12 Setter of the Year, Bugg earned All-America honors in each of her final three seasons and was named the conference's top setter in 2013, 2014, and 2015. She helped lead Stanford to the 2014 Pac-12 Championship and paced the nation with 12.10 assists per set as a junior.
In addition to her playing experience, Bugg has worked with both boys and girls athletes at Space Needle Volleyball Foundation in Seattle and has assisted with camps alongside current LMU associate head coach Jillian Hadder.
A native of Plano, Texas, Bugg was a standout prep athlete at Cardinal Gibbons Catholic High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she helped lead her team to three state championships and earned North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year honors twice. She was inducted into the Cardinal Gibbons Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023 and also represented the United States Youth National Team, helping the Americans win the 2010 NORCECA U19 Championship while earning Best Setter honors.
Bugg graduated from Stanford with a degree in political science.
With a decorated playing career and experience competing alongside many of the world's top athletes, Bugg adds a wealth of knowledge and championship-level experience to the LMU volleyball program.
