LIHUE, Hawaii – LMU men's golf's opening round 4-under pushed the Lions to the top of the leaderboard of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate on Thursday. The Lions led for much of the day after recording 20 birdies among the five competing.
Trevor Algya is one stroke off the individual lead and in a four-way tie for second place. The highlight of his opening-round 67 was the eagle recorded on the second Hole 2 that followed a birdie on Hole 1. Algya got as low as 4-under before finishing 18 at 3-under par.
Both Nateesh Anathan Ganeth and
Jackson McLaughlin finished a stroke under par and are in a seven-way tie for 14
th. Anatha Ganesh recorded five birdies to get under par while Mclaughlin shot three birdies of his own.
Louie Liu rounded out the scoring for the Lions with his 1-over par round. Liu ranks 32
nd in the 111-player field.
Pablo Garcia Terol finished a stroke back at 2-over, 72.
Only three teams closed out the round under par. Joining the Lions under par were No. 32 Texas A&M and No. 42 Long Beach State.
