Andjela Matic Brings Veteran Presence to LMU Roster

LOS ANGELES – The LMU women's basketball team is adding some experience to its roster for the 2025-26 season with senior transfer Andjela Matic coming on board.

"We're excited to welcome Andjela to the team as the final addition to our roster for the upcoming season," says head coach Aarika Hughes. "A standout guard with international experience, Andjela brings a unique blend of skill, maturity, and leadership to our program. Andjela is a true playmaker with the ball in her hands—capable of stretching the defense, creating for others, and impacting the game on both ends of the floor. Her leadership, competitive edge, and the maturity that comes from representing her country on the global stage will be invaluable."

Matic comes to the Lions from Duquesne, where she spent her junior year. She appeared in all 34 games for the Dukes, earning 25 starts. Over the season, she totaled 204 points, 96 rebounds, 21 steals, and ranked second on the team with 60 assists.

Prior to her time at Duquesne, Matic played two seasons at Vermont. As a freshman, she saw action in 20 games and recorded 13 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists. She made a significant jump in her sophomore campaign, finishing with 258 points, 92 rebounds, and 49 assists. That season, she reached double figures in scoring 10 times and posted a then-career-high 19 points in a WNIT second-round matchup against Niagara.

Originally from Ub, Serbia, Matic attended Sabic High School, where she averaged 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists during the 2021-22 season, earning team MVP honors. She also competed with the U18 team, representing Serbia at the FIBA Women's European Challengers. In the two following years, she advanced to the U20 national team and played in the FIBA U20 Women's European Championship.

"We're excited about what she brings to our team—not just her skills, but her presence and professionalism," says Hughes. "She knows what it takes to compete and win, and her addition raises the bar for everyone in our gym. We're confident she'll make an immediate impact. With Andjela's signing, we are officially complete and looking forward to a highly competitive and exciting season ahead."
