Lewis Jumps into Top-5 Position to Close Out NCAA Chapel Hill Regional

CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina – For the first time since 2006, LMU men's golf competed in an NCAA Regional as a team. The Lions closed out the three days of play, despite heavy rain and schedule changes, with a 3-under 278-284-277—837.
 
LMU placed ninth in the field of 13 after saving their best round for last. The third round began on Tuesday morning at the Par 70, 7084-yard UNC Finley Golf Course and took an extra day to conclude due to the harsh weather conditions which suspended play multiple times.
 
Trevor Algya followed his practice round hole in one with an ace on 12 on Wednesday morning. The Lions finished the regional with a tournament-best seven eagles. Algya also led the field with three eagles. Caden McMackin added two eagles, and Mason Snyder and Riley Lewis each sunk one of their own. Lewis also accounted for 15 birdies to finish two off the individual lead.
 
Lewis matched his opening day 65 and shot 10-under, 65-70-65—200 to jump seven positions into a tie for fifth place in the loaded field. This even marks the 20th top-5 finish of Lewis' decorated LMU career and 25thtime in the top-10 of a tournament.
 
NC State's Nick Mathews shot 12-under, 198 to finish two strokes ahead of Lewis and will advance out of the regional as an individual to the NCAA Championship. As a team, the Lions finished 12-strokes back of making the cut and placing in the top five.
 
Trevor Algya moved into a tie for 21st with his 69-70-69—208 performance. Algya shot a 3-under back nine to close out his season thanks to a birdie on 11 and hole-in-one on the par three following hole. Algya recorded one eagle in each of his three rounds.
 
Concluding his freshman campaign, Mason Snyder shot 70-72-70—212 to place in a tie for 34th in the 75-player field. Snyder closed his final round with a 2-under back nine to finish even for the event.
 
Caden McMackin shot 74-70-73—217 over his three rounds.
 
Tony Hendricks played as a final round substitute and shot 78.
 
Clemson won the event at 25-under, with East Tennessee State, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Baylor all finishing in the top-5 to advance out of the regional.
