GOLETA, Calif. – No team shot a better round than LMU's final round 207 on Tuesday. The Lions improved in each round of the UCSB Gaucho Invitational to finish at 28-under, 287-277-272—836 in sole possession of second place.
The Lions shot 16-under in the third round, highlighted by 22 birdies and
Riley Lewis' eagle in the final round. LMU moved into three strokes of tournament winners Nevada.
Lewis led the Lions with his 72-70-66—208 to for fourth for his sixth top-5 finish of the season.
Mason Snyder earned his sixth top-10 finish of his freshman campaign after tying for eighth at 6-under, 72-71-67—210.
Joining his teammates in the 60s in the final round, Caden McMacken shot 5-under on Tuesday with a 72-74-67—213 to tie for 14
th.
Both
Alejandro Alonso and
Trevor Algya finished at 1-under par to keep all five Lions in the top-20 of the event. Alonso shot 71-68-76—215 and Algya recorded a 75-68-72—215.
Competing as individuals,
Cade Anderson closed out at 75-72-78—225 and
David Gutierrez finished at 70-82-80—232.
This is LMU's fifth time finishing in the top-2 of an event this season. The Lions will compete for a WCC Championship from Apr. 26-28 at Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Wash.
