GULF SHORES, Ala. – The LMU beach volleyball team battled through adverse weather conditions, postponements, and delays in their time in Gulf Shores for the 2023 NCAA Championships.
After Friday's opening round matchup was deemed unplayable, LMU woke up bright and early to face the BeachBows on Saturday morning. The Lions battled the Rainbow Wahine before taking the morning dual, 3-1, to advance to the midday quarterfinal.
The Lions saw the third-ranked Trojans in the second matchup of the day. Three different courts opened with the scored tied at 20-20. LMU took the first dual point with
Madi Firnett and
Isabelle Tucker winning 21-18, 21-18 on Court Five. Then, with LMU trailing 2-1 overall lighting in the area delayed the finish of the final two courts who were each in the third set. The Lions came back to the sand to compete and try to take down the Trojans for the first time in program history but were unable to flip the scores in their favor.
