GULF SHORES, Ala. – #7 LMU Beach Volleyball pulled out a tight win in Friday's NCAA Tournament opening round to advance to the program's sixth-consecutive NCAA Quarterfinals. The Lions defeated 10-seed TCU in a rematch of last year's national championship game.
 
LMU took the first dual point with a strong win on the 2s Court led by Chloe Hooker and Ines Piret. The All-WCC First Team duo won 21-11, 21-17.
 
The Horned Frogs then took the next two matches on Courts two and three to take a 2-1 lead in the dual.
 
Despite being down 21-14 in the first set on Court 4, the pair flipped the course of the match and took the dual point with an impressive 14-21, 27-25, 15-13 comeback win.
 
This put all the attention on Court 1. The All-American First Teamers and WCC Pair of the Year clinched the dual in straight sets 27-25, 21-17 after pulling away in a first set 52-point battle.

The Lions have never lost an opening round dual at the NCAA Tournament and will play in a sisth-consecutive quarterfinal on Saturday morning. The game will be played at 11:00 AM CT / 9:00 AM PT and air on ESPN2 for full coverage and ESPN+ for individual courts.

2026 NC beach volleyball championship format
The 2026 NC beach volleyball championship bracket will consist of 16 teams, with eight making it as automatic qualifiers via conference championships. The selected teams will be seeded Nos. 1-16 in the bracket.

The championship will then be played in single-elimination duals with 10 student-athletes split into five pairs from each team. The dual meet match is formatted in five best-of-three sets, pairs matches, with each pairs match being worth one point.
