Baseball Announces 2023 Recruiting Class

LOS ANGELES - The LMU baseball team is proud to announce the new additions to the roster ahead of the 2023 season. The Lions signed 14 players with four coming from other Division I institutions, one coming from a junior college, and nine incoming freshmen. 
 
"We are very excited for the 2023 season," said Head Coach Nathan Choate. "Our incoming class is very pitching-heavy and we think several players have a chance to impact us right away." 
 
SEAMUS BARRETT 
Barrett is a right-handed pitcher who transferred from Louisville. The Cardinals last season fell to Texas A&M in the Super Regional round of the NCAA Tournament. 
 
"Seamus is a very talented transfer from Louisville. He features a mid 90s fastball and should have an immediate impact on our program," said Choate. 
 
DAVID CHASE 
Chase is a right-handed pitcher from Mira Costa High School. He was a Bay League Honorable Mention awardee and was named Rawlings/Perfect Game All-Region. 
 
"David is a local right-handed pitcher from Mira Costa High School. He has a very live arm and a ton of up-side," said Choate. 
 
COLE CHIMENTI 
Chimenti is a right-handed pitcher and transferred from Long Beach State after playing a season for the Dirtbags. He was previously named to the South Coast Conference 2nd Team in 2021 as a member of the Ohlone College Renegades. 
 
"Cole is a transfer, right-handed pitcher from Long Beach State. He is super competitive and pitches with an edge," said Choate. 
 
COLE CLARK 
Clark is a right-handed pitcher that attended Notre Dame High School in Los Angeles, Calif. Clark took home numerous honors in spring of 2022, being named to the All-Mission League 1st Team, CIF Southern Section 1st Team, and to the California State 1st Team. He was also named the 2022 Los Angeles Daily News Pitcher of the Year. 
 
"Cole is the latest Notre Dame High School standout to join LMU. He had an incredible senior year and was one of the most successful high school pitchers in Southern California in 2022," said Choate. 
 
BRYSON HOIER 
Hoier is an outfielder that attended Paso Robles High School. He received 1st Team All-Mountain League honors in 2021 and followed that up with 2nd Team honors in 2022. He was named all-county in both seasons.  
 
"Bryson is an athletic outfielder that will hit for power. He comes from LMU via Paso Robles High School on the Central Coast," said Choate. 
 
RYAN HUGHES 
Hughes is an right-handed pitcher from Cactus Shadow High School in Arizona. He was named to the 2022 West Region Preseason Team and was a 2021 Perfect Game National Elite Champion. He was rated as the 14th best right-handed pitcher in Arizona and 47th best prospect overall in the state. 
 
"Ryan is a projectible right-handed pitcher from Cactus Shadow High School in Arizona. He has tremendous up-side," said Choate. 
 
ZACH KIRBY 
Kirby is a right-handed pitcher and transferred from East Tennessee State after playing four seasons for the Buccaneers. He led the pitching staff in back-to-back seasons, the first time that has happened at ETSU in a century. He competed at Damien High School in La Verne, Calif. in high school where he earned All-Baseline honors his senior season.  
 
"Zach is a graduate transfer who starred at East Tennessee State for the last four seasons. His experience and success will have an immediate impact on our program," said Choate. 
 
CHAZ McROBERTS 
McRoberts is a right-handed pitcher hailing from St. Augustine High School in San Diego, Calif. McRoberts took home numerous honors as a Saint including 2021 Western League Pitcher of the Year, 2021 All-CIF San Diego Section 2nd Team, 2021 and 2022 All-Western League 1st Team, and was named to the 2022 Perfect Game All-American and All-Region Teams. 
 
"Chaz is an athletic right-handed pitcher from San Diego. He is very confident and competitive on the mound," said Choate. 
 
CHRISTIAN MIRANDA 
Miranda is a shortstop from Notre Dame High School. He was named to the All-Mission League 2nd Team in 2022. 
 
"Christian joins us from Notre Dame High School as well. He is a well-rounded player that understands how to win," said Choate. 
 
RYAN MULLAN 
Mullan is a right-handed pitcher that prepped at Damien High School. Mullan took home 2022 All-Baseline 1st Team honors, 2022 All-San Gabriel Valley honors, was named the 2022 Team MVP and was ranked the 46th best prospect in the state by Perfect Game. 
 
"Ryan is a right-handed pitcher who starred at Damien High School. He has a low 90s fastball, good feel for a slider, and pitches with a lot of conviction," said Choate. 
 
ANDREW NYKOLUK 
Nykoluk is a shortstop that prepped at Simi Valley High School. In 2022, he was named to the All-Coastal Canyon 1st Team, All-Ventura County 1st Team and was voted to the first team by the Ventura County Baseball Coaches Association. 
 
"Andrew is a Simi Valley High School product. As a shortstop, he has great baseball instincts and feel for the game," said Choate. 
 
AUSTIN SCHROEDER 
Schroeder is a right-handed pitcher transferring from Palomar College. While at Palomar, he led the California Community College Athletic Association in saves with 12 and was an honorable mention awardee in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference. He prepped at The Bishop's School before Palomar where he was a two-time All-Coastal League selection. 
 
"Austin had a great season for Palomar Junior College. He led the state in saves. He has an aggressive mindset on the mound and good feel for a breaking ball," said Choate. 
 
TANNER WARADY 
Warady is a right-handed pitcher and prepped at Santa Margarita High School. Warady was named to the Orange County North vs. South Team, named a Trinity League All Star, named a preseason All-American by Perfect Game, and was ranked as the 158th pitcher in California also by Perfect Game.  
 
"Tanner joins us via Santa Margarita High School. He is a right-handed pitcher that fills up the strike zone with multiple pitches," said Choate. 
 
DAVID WATSON 
Watson is a right-handed pitcher transferring from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The Arizona native pitched four seasons for the Utes and led the team in strikeouts in 2020.  
 
"David is a graduate transfer from the University of Utah. He has a ton of experience and a great understanding of what it takes to be successful at this level," said Choate.
