MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Brewers announced on Wednesday that closer Trevor Megill has been selected to the National League All-Star Team as a replacement for Freddy Peralta, who will be unavailable as he is scheduled to start Sunday.
Megill has been outstanding this season, converting 21 of 24 save opportunities with a 2.41 ERA across 36 appearances. Armed with a high-velocity fastball and sharp breaking ball, he has emerged as one of the league's most reliable late-inning arms.
Before making his mark in the majors, Megill pitched for LMU from 2012 to 2015. He joined the Lions as an early enrollee from Huntington Beach, Calif., earning West Coast Conference All-Freshman honors. After recovering from Tommy John surgery, he returned to help anchor LMU's pitching staff, finishing his college career with a 3.40 ERA while holding opponents to a .234 batting average and averaging nearly nine strikeouts per game.
Originally drafted twice out of LMU, Megill made his MLB debut in 2021 with the Cubs and joined the Brewers in 2023. This is his first career All-Star selection.
The MLB All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, July 15, at 5:20 p.m. PT at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves.
