First Look at the 2026 Lions Coaching Staff

Head coach Donegal Fergus has assembled a dynamic new coaching staff following several departures this summer, building a team that blends professional baseball experience, data-driven innovation, and proven championship success. The revamped staff features expertise across all areas of player development, from pitching and hitting to catching and recruiting, positioning the Lions to compete at the highest level while developing the complete student-athlete.

Dan Cox - Recruiting Coordinator
Cox brings 21 years of Major League Baseball scouting experience to the Lions program, most recently with the Atlanta Braves, where he earned a World Series ring. His extensive professional baseball background provides invaluable insight into player evaluation and development at the highest level. Following a stint as recruiting coordinator at the University of Hawaii under Rich Hill, Cox returned to the mainland and was elevated to assistant coach in 2025 after serving as director of player personnel in 2024, making him a crucial asset in identifying and securing top-tier talent for the Lions.

Sean Isaac - Pitching Coach
Isaac joins the Lions after professional coaching roles with the Boston Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers, bringing a progressive, data-driven approach to pitching development that has impacted athletes from the Major Leagues to college baseball. Most recently serving as the Double-A pitching coach for the Portland Sea Dogs in the Red Sox organization, Isaac led affiliate-level pitching operations and individualized player development planning while utilizing industry-leading technology. A Southern California native who pitched professionally through 2020 after being drafted by the Angels, Isaac was a two-time First Team All-American at Vanguard University and brings both elite playing experience and cutting-edge development expertise to the Bluff.

Eli Orona - Hitting Coach
Orona brings a proven track record of offensive success after most recently serving as a hitting coach in the Texas Rangers organization, where he led the Arizona Complex League in overall offense in 2024 with league-leading marks in batting average (.285), OPS (.833), and numerous other categories. During his four years with the Rangers, Orona developed a reputation for his data-driven approach using Trackman, Trumedia, and Baseball Savant, while successfully individualizing development plans for each athlete. A San Gabriel Valley native from West Covina who played collegiately at Cal State Northridge and Cal State LA, Orona holds a degree in Kinesiology and is currently completing his Master's in Coaching and Exercise Science at Concordia University Irvine.

Griffin Williams - Catching Coordinator
Williams joins the program with a remarkable championship pedigree after helping lead Linn-Benton Community College to three consecutive NWAC South titles and back-to-back NWAC Championships in 2024 and 2025, posting a 104-40-1 record over three seasons. The Portland native also served as Catching Coach for the Portland Pickles of the West Coast League, contributing to the team's 2024 WCL Championship while working with over 10 Division I catchers. "I am absolutely thrilled to be here at LMU," Williams said. "Can't thank Ferg enough for this opportunity. I've wanted to join his staff for as long as I've known him, and I'm very excited to get to work." Williams' combination of championship experience, proven player development success with three catchers advancing to Division I programs, and degree in Sports Psychology from Grand Canyon University makes him an ideal fit to lead the Lions' catching corps.

Christian Dicochea - Director of Player Development
Dicochea returns to the program two years after completing his career as a Lions infielder, where the diminutive second baseman was known for his clutch hitting ability and penchant for getting on base. His greatest asset is his "junkyard dog" demeanor and competitive fire, bringing an edge and toughness that Fergus hopes will permeate throughout the 2026 roster. Dicochea's recent playing experience and intimate knowledge of the program make him an invaluable bridge between the coaching staff and current players.

Adrian Benoit - Pitching Performance Analyst
Benoit brings a unique blend of analytical expertise and athletic development experience to LMU's pitching program. As the founder and lead of the data department at Beimel Elite Athletics, he built the entire infrastructure for athlete data collection, analysis, and reporting across multiple facilities. His background includes work as a 3D Printing Engineer at Relativity Space and service as a Small Arms Weapons Range Coach in the U.S. Navy Reserve, providing him with a distinctive skill set in precision, technical analysis, and performance optimization that will enhance the Lions' pitching development process.

Will Gross - Pitching Performance Analyst
Gross brings recent playing experience and specialized training to his role supporting the Lions' pitching staff. After beginning his collegiate career at Blinn College in 2022 and completing it at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2024, Gross trained at Driveline Baseball in the fall of 2024, where he advanced his knowledge of player development and modern pitching performance methods. His combination of on-field experience and cutting-edge analytical training allows him to connect with pitchers while implementing the latest performance optimization techniques.
