HENDERSON, NV – The West Coast Conference Championships are underway, and LMU's
Gavin Cohen is tied for the individual lead with an opening round 66. Cohen's 6-under day is tied with San Francisco's Tim Widing for the top position after 18 holes.
Both Coehn and WIding are two of the three players to record seven birdies on the first day of competition. Cohen did a good amount of his damage on Par 4 holes, leading the way at 4-under par on such holes and averaging 3.60.
The Lions are familiar with the top role of the conference tournament, as
Riley Elmes tied for first in the last playing of the Championships in 2019. Elmes finished the three rounds with a 6-under performance himself.
Freshman
Riley Lewis is tied for 17
th in the 45-player field with an even 72.
Cameron Meeks is a stroke behind at 1-over, 73.
Kyle Kinnane (75) and
Caden McMackin (76) close out the LMU five.
As a team, LMU sits in the middle of the pack in fifth-place with a 2-under, 286.
The Lions are a tournament-best 9-under par collectively on Par 5 holes.
Round Two will begin on Friday morning with McMackin starting on Hole 1 at 7:50 a.m. Every 10 minutes, the rest of the team will tee off from the same hole.
