LA JOLLA, Calif. – For the second time this spring, LMU men's golf has both a tournament win and an individual win. The Lions claimed their second team title on Tuesday after leading wire-to-wire at UC San Diego's Invitational.
Nateesh Anatha Ganesh also earned his first NCAA win, following a pair of wins at the NAIA level a year ago.
As a team, the Lions were one of only two programs to record all three rounds under par for the tournament. LMU shot 279-282-285—846 to win the event by three seven strokes. The Lions recorded a tournament-best 58 birdies and recorded six fewer birdies than the next closest school. LMU's 3.07 average on Par 3 holes and 4.03 average on Par 4 holes were both the best among the 17-team field.
Anatha Ganesh shot 66-65-72—203 over his three days of play to win the tournament by two strokes. The sophomore added two birdies on Tuesday to finish with 16 over 54 holes to share for the tournament's most.
Jumping seven positions into his first top 3 finish,
Pablo Garcia Terol shot 7-under and finished at 69-73-67—209. Garcia Terol's 5-under final round was the third-best performance of the day of the 104-player field. The sophomore recorded six birdies without going over par over his final 15 holes.
Trevor Algya (72-71-74—217) and
Adam Pedersen (72-73-72—217) each tied for 31
st.
Louie Liu closed out the LMU five with his 72-74-74—220.
Competing as an individual,
Jackson McLaughlin shot his best round of the tournament with a 81-78-74—236.
This is the second team win for the Lions this season, adding to the win in February at the Jack Burns Intercollegiate. Algya won that event.
One regular season event remains on LMU's schedule, a trip to Columbus for Ohio State's Robert Kepler Intercollegiate on Apr. 11 and 12.
