LOS ANGELES – The No. 12 Loyola Marymount University Lions (3-0, 2-0 WCC) head north to Portland to face the Pilots and look to keep their three game winning streak to start the 2021 season intact.
The Lions have been getting contributions from everyone on the pitch throughout the season and freshman
Steven Anderson is having a strong debut for head coach
Paul Krumpe. Anderson, leads the team with two goals and five points in addition to being the pace setter for shots on goal with seven.
In LMU's last two games Anderson has provided the go ahead score, breaking scoreless ties and giving the Lions leads they haven't relinquished at all this season.
The Lions took down the Pilots 2-1 in double overtime last year and will look for a repeat result in Portland this weekend. The last victory over the Pilots at Merlo Field came in 2013 where the Lions won 2-1.
In addition to Anderson, the Lions head into the weekend with reigning UCU West Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week in
Duhaney Williams. He was responsible for assists on both of the Lions goals last weekend, preserving a 2-1 result over Gonzaga. On the year Williams has one goal, two assists, four points, four shots, and three shots on goal.
LMU continues to apply pressure on opposing team's defenses, leading the WCC in shots per game at 15 and shots on goal per game at 7.33. With everything the Lions do on offense their defense continues to shut down opponents.
On the defensive end the Lions have only allowed 19 shots with six of those attempts coming on goal. Goalkeeper
Jacob Jackson has been outstanding for the Lions in net, posting two clean sheets in LMU's three games and ranks first in the conference in shutouts and second in goals against average at 0.333.
The match against the Pilots will be streamed live with links to the broadcast available on the men's soccer schedule page at lmulions.com.
The Lions will return to Sullivan Field for a three-game homestand with San Diego first paying a visit on Sunday, March 21 at 1:00 p.m. followed by Pacific on March 27 and San Francisco on April 3.
