The Loyola Marymount University Lions men's soccer team (4-1) is off to their best start under head coach
Paul Krumpe since they reeled off five straight wins to begin the 2015 season. LMU's 4-1 record to start the year sees them ranked #21 in the country according to Top Drawer Soccer.
The Lions opened the 2019 campaign with five straight games at Sullivan Field and took full advantage of their home cooking by outscoring opponents 8-2 over that stretch. The goals for the Lions have come from aggressive play on the offensive end propelling LMU to a top 35 national ranking in both shots per game at 15.00 and shots on goal per game at 6.60.
In addition to the Lions offensive output, sophomore
Jacob Jackson has been nothing but spectacular at goal for LMU.
Jackson has recorded four-straight clean sheets for the Lions, tying a school record for consecutive shutouts and is one of three goalies ever to record the feat for LMU. The last time the Lions notched four straight shutouts was during the 2015 season when Paul Blanchette was in goal for LMU.
Jackson's stellar play also sees him atop the national rankings for goalkeepers. He is tied for first in the nation in goals against average at 0.000 and save percentage at 1.000. During the four-game stretch Jackson has seen 43 shots with 12 saves to his credit.
The Lions will now face their first road test when they travel to Riverside and take on the Highlanders at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 19 followed by another contest away from Sullivan Field on Sept. 22 against Cal State Northridge at 6:00 p.m.
