STOCKTON, Calif. – The opening round of the West Coast Conference Championships featured six of the nine schools finishing under par for the day. LMU Men's Golf shot a 285 to finish at three-under and fourth heading into Friday.
"The course was there for the taking today," said Head Coach
Jason D'Amore. "Ray played nicely and we had some good runs out there. The next two days we need to make more birdies to be in the hunt."
Freshman
Raymond Navis led the Lions with a 69, which ties him for fourth individually at three back from the leader. Navis shared the tournament low score on Par 3 holes, finishing the day at 1-under.
Riley Elmes shot a 71 to also finish under par and is tied for 11
thin the 45-player field. Elmes led all players by averaging 4.00 strokes on Par 5 holes, including an eagle on 16.
Shooting an even 72,
Justin Egelske is tied for 18
thafter recording the second-most pars for the day with 13.
Gavin Cohen is a stroke back and tied for 28
thwith his 73.
Samuel Su closes out the LMU five still in striking distance at 75.
The Lions will tee off with 11-minute intervals on Friday morning, along with Gonzaga and Santa Clara, from the first tee between 8:25 a.m. and 9:09 a.m.
