WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – Half the teams completed their two rounds at the Southwestern Invitational and half have to wait until Tuesday to conclude their second after play was suspended due to darkness on Monday night. The Loyola Marymount men's golf team's five competitors finished their 36 holes and will pick up on Tuesday for the final 18.
"We battled today and had some good holes at the end to help us moving into tomorrow," said Head Coach
Jason D'Amore. "Tomorrow presents a good opportunity for us."
Gavin Cohen made a second round jump with a 68 in his afternoon round to close out his day at 73-68—141. Cohen jumped nine positions between the two rounds to close his day at a three-way tie for fifth.
Both
Riley Elmes (75-73—148) and
Samuel Su (76-72—148) each improved from their opening rounds as well to finish at identical 148 marks and tie for 25
th.
Justin Egelske posted a 74-78—152 on Monday and
Matthew Carungay closed out the opening day at 79-85—164.
The team's late surge moved the Lions into a three-way tie for seventh in the 12-team field. LMU shot 298-291—589 on the tournament's opening day.
Play will resume and conclude on Tuesday morning.
