The Loyola Marymount University Lions men's soccer team (10-4-3, 5-0-0 WCC) are looking for their fifth-straight victory on Saturday afternoon when they take on No. 12 Saint Mary's. The match between the Lions and Gaels will determine who will receive the automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament and would mark a return trip to the NCAA's for LMU since the 2013 season.
The Lions are coming off a week where they beat No. 23 San Diego 3-1 and took down Santa Clara 2-0 en route to retaining a share of first place in the West Coast Conference with the Gaels. Both LMU and Saint Mary's are the lone teams in the WCC to have an unblemished conference record at 5-0-0.
LMU's
Jack Sauls is coming off a week where he was named WCC Player of the Week for his efforts on the pitch including the game-winning assist against USD and the game-winning goal against SCU. Sauls was the second Lion to win the award on the season following goalkeeper
Jacob Jackson who was named Player of the Week on Sept. 23.
The Lions have been getting production from all over the roster, featuring 12 players who've scored goals on the season. The leading goal scorers for LMU are
Duhaney Williams and
CJ Neville who set the pace at four each. LMU also boasts a roster where 15 players have recorded one assist or more for the year. It's that type of production that has head coach
Paul Krumpe's team undefeated in conference play.
In net, goalkeeper
Jacob Jackson has recorded eight shutouts in his 13 games played for the Lions for one of the best shutout percentages in the country. Jackson also ranks third in the WCC in saves with 45, goals against average at 0.79 and a save percentage of .804.
The Lions and Gaels are set for kickoff tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
