TUCSON, Ariz. –
Riley Elmes has not shown any let up in his final semester of competition. The LMU senior led the team with a 69-68-65—202 three-round score and finished in a two-way tie for second in the Arizona Intercollegiate at 11-under par.
"This was a frustrating week for us," said Head Coach
Jason D'Amore. "We left a lot of opportunities out there and have to get better with our scoring clubs. Awesome week for Riley and a great start to building a strong campaign for himself as he turns pro."
Elmes did a majority of his damage on Par 4 holes, finishing at 8-under on such holes for the tournament. Elmes recorded 15 birdies and added an eagle over his three rounds of play.
In his first tournament with the Lions,
Gavin Cohen posted the second lowest score on the team and finished tied for 45
thwith his 72-71-72—215.
Following his impressive opening round where he sat in a tie for first,
Raymond Navis shot a 66-76-78—220 to tie for 63
rd.
Matthew Carungay (78-70-76—224) and
Mason Glinski (78-70-77—225) finished a stroke away from each other to round out the LMU five.
As a team, LMU's 282-280-292—854 was good for 11
thoverall in the 16-team field.
In the Arizona Medalist Intercollegiate, which consisted of individuals,
Samuel Su made a surge on Tuesday jumping 11 positions in the final round to tie for 12
that 76-69-69—214.
Cameron Meeks lowered his score by a stroke each round as well, jumping into a tie for 26
thafter recording a 74-73-72—219.
The two individuals totaled 24 birdies between the two of them with Su claiming 13 and Meeks adding 11 to go along with one eagle.
The Lions will next compete at The Farms Invitational on Feb. 11-12 in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
