Box Score LOS ANGELES, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount women's tennis team swept Florida International University in its first round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend Saturday morning, 4-0. 
 
"Our intensity was at our highest and we really competed well," said head coach Agustin Moreno. "They finished last year ranked No. 41 and made the NCAA tournament, so that definitely is the best win I ever had at LMU as a coach. We came back from Oregon straight to the courts and that made a big difference. We are way tougher than we were a week ago." 
 
LMU set the tone in doubles play, as Siobhan Anderson and Lillian Gabrielsen defeated Basak Akbas and Paulina Bakaite 6-3 on court two. Veronica Miroshnichenko and Eva Marie Voracek beat Kamila Umarova and Maryna Veksler 6-4 on court one, clinching the point for the Lions. 
 
Up 1-0, Gabrielsen swept Mariia Solnyshkina on court six, 6-0, 6-0. Miroshnichenko beat Umarova 6-4, 6-1 on court one, giving the Lions a 3-0 lead.
 
Elvira Juravliova clinched the match for LMU when she beat Akbas on court four 6-2, 6-3. 
 
The Lions' win advances the team to the second round of the tournament, where they will take on either UCLA or Minnesota on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
