Box Score EUGENE, Ore., -- The LMU women's tennis team couldn't hold on during its first dual match of the season against the University of Oregon, as the Lions fell 5-2 in Eugene.
Starting with doubles play,
Elvira Juravliova and Yesica De Lucas picked up a win, as there was a forfeit from the Ducks side, while
Siobhan Anderson and Lillian Gabrielsen lost to Paiton Wagner and Allison Mulville on court two, 6-2.
Tied up 1-1,
Veronica Miroshnichenko and
Eva Marie Voracek lost a hard-fought battle against Shweta Sangwan and Rifanty Kahfiani, 7-6 (7-3) on court one.
Down 1-0 on the match, LMU tied things up after a forfeit on court six, giving Gabrielsen the win. Anderson fell to Kahfiani 6-1, 6-0 on court three.
Camila Tumosa put up a strong showing for the Lions, as she picked up and impressive 6-1, 6-0 win over Taryn Fujimori on court five, tying things up a second time.
De Lucas was defeated by Mulville on court four, 6-2, 6-1, while Miroshnichenko was beat by ranked No. 81 Sangwan 6-2, 6-3 on court one, clinching the match for Oregon.
Voracek pushed Wagner to three sets, but fell after a tie-breaker on court two, 6-3, 3-6, 3-2 (10-4).
The Lions look forward to the ITA Kick Off Weekend in Los Angeles, Calif., where they will be taking on No. 8 UCLA, Florida International and Minnesota.
