July 16, 2018 LOS ANGELES â€" The Loyola Marymount men's basketball team is headed abroad this August. The Lions will participate in an Australian triphighlighted by new culture experiences, team bonding opportunities, and basketball. All 13 players, and the men's basketball staff, will be making the trip.
"New players get to join the players that have already been here," said Coach Mike Dunlap. "We also get the opportunity to play Lion basketball on foreign soil. Lastly, we get to introduce our guys to a different culture and there is a learning element to this trip that we embrace."
The team will travel Aug. 9-20, with photos and exclusive content from Australia available throughout the trip on social media and LMULions.com.
Both women's basketball and rowing have hired new assistant coaches to their program. Jasmin Holliday, a familiar face within the women's basketball program, has been promoted to an assistant coaching roleafter serving as the team's director of operations for the 2017-18 season. Holliday has been with the program for three years overall, getting her start as a graduate assistant in 2015-16 and then moving into an administrative assistant position within LMU Athletics, specifically women's basketball, in 2016-17.
Jake Power, who spent the last two years as a volunteer assistant coach with Stanford rowing, has been hired as an assistant coach with LMU rowing, it was announced by head coach Hanna Osborne this week. While at Stanford, Power helped guide Stanford to a fourth-place finish at the 2018 NCAA Championship while assisting with the selection of the 4+ that placed eighth at the 2018 NCAA Championship.
