Arellano Claims WWPA Player of the Week Honors Following 16 Point Week

WWPA Release

OAKLAND, Calif. – Daniel Arellano has been named the Western Water Polo Association Player of the week, the conference announced Wednesday.

Loyola Marymount senior Daniel Arellano led LMU to a 3-0 record last week, including a pair of conference wins to move to 4-1 in the WWPA. Arellano started his week with a career-high four goal, seven assist performance to push the Lions to a conference win over #12 California Baptist. All four of his shots scored for a perfect 1.000 shooting percentage.

He added two steals and a pair of field blocks in the win. He followed that performance with a five point outing on Saturday to help LMU keep pace in the conference race heading into the last week of conference games. His final line against the Eagles included two goals, three assists, and a steal.

The following morning, in front of family and friends on his Senior Day on campus, Arellano scored a goal and added three more assists to lead LMU to a win over #13 Princeton in his final home game.

His career week moved his season totals to 16 goals (7 last week), 19 assists (9 last week), and eight steals (three last week).

This is the second WWPA All-Conference performer for the Lions this season, with Alexandros Athymaritis earning the award on Sept. 26.

LMU has a full week ahead with conference stops at UC Davis and at Santa Clara with a conference title still in sight.
